There is a wide variety of counselling training available today and we believe this is very positive for the profession. We encourage potential students to take as much care in choosing their course as they would in choosing an individual counsellor. Ensure that the ethos and philosophy of the training organisation is right for you; don’t be afraid to ask questions and expect answers; and certainly look into as many courses as possible before making your choice. Our Accreditation and Approval Scheme is a peer-review system which tells you that the training schools listed are, in the opinion of the Society, safe, ethical and competent in the training that they offer. An Accredited Course fulfils all the requirements of Accredited Membership for graduates from that course; Approved Courses go some way towards Accredited Membership. (Accredited Courses score 100 points in our rating scheme so you will be able to work out what additional elements you may need to undertake to gain Accredited Membership from the number of points awarded to each Approved Course. The Society can help you if you need clarification.)
Accredited Membership can be attained whether or not you choose an Accredited Course as we take into account a wide variety of criteria of which training forms a cornerstone.
